Laundry Sink – Interesting Addition For Your Laundry Room

Posted on Saturday, June 5, 2010 in Sink Types

If you are considering rearranging your laundry room or basement, try including a laundry sink therein for the benefits it offers. Though most consider it unnecessary because of automatic washing machines and dryers, having one at home allows you to do many things for which the standard-sized sinks can’t be used so conveniently. Plus it adds value to your home.

Uses

Of course the conventional use of a laundry tub is for washing activities, there are other uses too that one wouldn’t appreciate normally. Think of using them for hand washing of delicate clothes or hand made quilts and even for pre-soaking laundry besides many other things in a normal household that you will realize soon after you start using it.

For instance, if you have a party going at home, you could use it for keeping the drinks chilled on ice. On such occasions the fridge is sure to get filled up with food and snacks and one finds it hard to have an arrangement for keeping cold drinks. Well, you may consider coolers, but aren’t they a bit too bulky and inconvenient to handle. Use your laundry tub instead. Just fill it up with ice and let your drinks get chilled to the delight of your guests. It surely is more convenient and safer, as there is hardly any chance of people tripping over.

Come to think of another useful way of utilizing your laundry sink. You’ll find it perfect for defrosting large volumes of meat. The amount of meats, large roast or chicken required for a large gathering can most conveniently be thawed in a laundry tub, keeping your kitchen sink and refrigerator free for any other purpose.

Styles

As you start thinking on the lines of having a laundry sink, you almost take it for granted that they are all alike. That’s where most go wrong. You get them in different designs, made from different materials and of varying capacities. The two basic models are: the one which can be mounted on the wall and then there is another design that rests on a four legged stand. Wall mounted models are decidedly convenient but you need to ascertain if the wall will be able to bear the weight of a loaded sink. In case of any doubts, it would be better to go for a standing type of model.

Coming to the material used for making these tubs, you may choose one made from stainless steel or polypropylene. The capacity ranges upwards of twenty gallons.

That should leave no doubt that laundry tubs find very limited use in any household. These can be put to many different uses, depending upon circumstances and requirements.
